An XPipe alternative that also watches the servers
XPipe organizes your connections and launches your terminal. ServerShelf keeps the inventory, runs the checks and patches the machines.
XPipe is a connection hub with an open-source core. It stores SSH hosts, detects Docker, Podman, Kubernetes and LXD containers as well as Proxmox, Hyper-V, KVM and VMware guests on a host, browses remote files, and opens sessions in the terminal you already use. The Community edition is free; Homelab and Professional tiers are yearly subscriptions.
ServerShelf covers the same hosts from the operations side: what is installed, what needs an update, whether the certificate and the HTTP check are fine, what the log says. It has its own PTY terminal and controls Docker over SSH. One purchase, no account, encrypted database on your machine.

What is a good XPipe alternative for running a fleet?
ServerShelf is a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux that manages Linux, macOS and Windows targets over SSH without an agent. It imports servers from twelve cloud providers, scans each one for OS, packages, services, ports and containers, and keeps the result as an inventory with projects and tags. On top of that sit pending-update lists with dry-run patch runs, HTTP and TCP uptime checks, real TLS handshakes for certificate expiry, hardware telemetry with alerts, and AI log triage with your own API key or a local Ollama.
XPipe stays the better pick if you want a free, open-source hub, a proper remote file browser, VNC and RDP launchers, or support for hypervisors and container runtimes beyond Docker. It does not do monitoring, patching or inventory, and that is by design.

Keep XPipe or switch?
Keep XPipe if the hub is what you need: many connection types, a file browser, your favorite terminal, and open source. It does that job well and the free tier is generous.
Use ServerShelf if you want to know what state the machines are in. XPipe gets you there; it does not tell you what you will find. ServerShelf does. Pending updates, expiring certificates, failed checks and a log excerpt explained by your own AI key are the daily view; the terminal is one click away. The two coexist fine: XPipe for sessions and files, ServerShelf for inventory and monitoring.
